Wilderness is where we explore the unknown; it’s where we find parts of the world few others have seen. It’s quiet, except for the rush of avalanches wiping clean the slopes of remote mountains or the crashing of massive rockfall tumbling from big alpine walls (hopefully nowhere near us). Wilderness is the sweetness of small streams full of trout, the buzz of mosquitoes en masse, and a landscape free of the human touch. In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act, we are inviting all AMGA members to submit photos of their experiences in the wilderness. We want to know what wilderness means to you. Plus, we want to give away some money and publish your photos in our glossy magazine, the GUIDE Bulletin. You don’t have to be a professional photographer to enter (though you are welcome to enter if you are). Send an email to Lizzy Scully at editor@amga.com with a low resolution version of your submission, plus a caption that explains where you were, when you were there, who you were with, what you were doing, and your current AMGA credentials. Please don’t send more than five submissions. Contest is open to all AMGA members. Please send your submissions by October 10th. Read on for more instructions!
